The PowerBook 5300c was introduced in August 1995. It is powered by a 100MHz PPC 603e processor, 20MB of RAM, a 3.5" floppy drive and a 16-bit, active matrix color screen. This was the first Powerbook series that came equipped with a PowerPC processor.
The laptop has been cleaned and refurbished: this model was infamous due to two problems that plagued it (1) the internal power connector and (2) the battery. Both of these issues have been addressed; the power connector has been resoldered to the printed circuit board and strengthened with epoxy glue and the battery - which had started bulging - has been gutted of its cells and re-glued (it obviously does not function). The logic board electrolytic capacitors have been replaced. The screen is bright and sharp and does not exhibit any dead or burnt pixels.
With this restoration, this collectible laptop should still run for many years to come.
This laptop is in an overall great cosmetic condition - inside and out. The only cosmetic issues are the missing I/O port door, the two mushy rubber "feet" and the missing PCMCIA top slot flap.
Extensively tested: sound, display, trackpad, keyboard, floppy drive, hard disk, external SCSI port, everything is working as it should.
The hard disk in this laptop is almost 30 years old and is still functioning perfectly; however, there is no telling how long it will continue working. Should it fail, a modern, inexpensive and readily available solid-state replacement IDE hard disk can be installed.
Included are: the PowerBook 5300c, the gutted battery, the original (dead) Apple power adapter and an aftermarket power adapter. MacOS 7.5.2 (French) is installed on the hard disk with some programs. Note: this laptop is equipped with a French (Canada) keyboard. It's layout is the standard US QWERTY layout, except that some of the punctuation keys are labelled as accented characters (these keys register as the standard punctuation characters with the English version of MacOS).
Despite this laptop having been extensively tested and found to be fully functional, it IS almost 30 years old technology and as such, there is no guarantee offered, or implied, for continued functioning. This lot is being sold as-is.
Great collectible, FUNCTIONAL laptop for retro-computing, retro-gaming or for use as a decorative item or as a prop. This laptop is ready to use and enjoy!
