Vintage Apple Mac Macintosh Classic II - Recapped/Tested/Working
Macintosh Classic II in very good condition – cosmetic and functional. Memory upgraded to the full 10MB and disk upgraded to a 250MB disk. Fully restored to reliable, working, condition.
The Mac Classic II was the last Mac to use a 9" black and white screen. It was referred to as "the poor man's Macintosh SE/30" as it had the same processor as the SE/30, but with a 16 bits data path instead of the 32 bits data path on the SE/30. This particular unit is in very good condition.
Many computers from the late 80's and early 90's used capacitors which were particularly prone to leakage after many years of storage. The Classic line was the most infamous for such leakage. Essentially, after many years (15+), the capacitors slowly start leaking the fluid (electrolyte) they contain which is very corrosive. This fluid "eats" away electrical traces and chip pins rendering the computer unusable. This is a problem which is prevalent on practically all vintage electronic equipment. This Mac's logic board has been recently recapped and cleaned (November 2022).The "recapping" consists of removing the old capacitors, cleaning the printed circuit board of the leaked electrolyte and replacing the capacitors by fresh capacitors thus giving a new life to the computer.
This Classic II is equipped with 10MB of RAM (upgraded from the 2MB installed at the factory) and a 250 MB hard disk (upgraded from the 80MB installed at the factory). It has been disassembled, dusted and cleaned. It has been fully tested, sound, internal and external ports, disks, etc. The floppy disk drive has been serviced and lubricated - reads, writes, formats and ejects disks as intended. The screen is in excellent condition - bright, sharp and stable with no burn-in.
Includes the Classic II, the Apple Keyboard II in excellent condition, the keyboard cable, the Apple ADB Desktop Bus Mouse II and an aftermarket power cord. Also includes the original documentation (I believe that it is complete) and the original installation floppy disks (Mac OS 7.0.1). MacOS 7.0.1 is freshly installed on the hard disk. The included floppy disks have not been tested; however images of all the floppy disks are available on the hard disk. Also copied on the hard disk are many games from the 80s and 90s (not all tested and confirmed working with this model). Note 1: the clock/params battery has been recycled and has not been replaced. Note 2: this unit comes from a smoking environment and still has a lingering, very faint, smoke smell.
Despite this computer having been extensively tested and found to be fully functional, it IS over 30 years old technology and as such, there is no guarantee offered, or implied, for continued functioning. This lot is being sold as-is with no returns accepted.
Great, fully functional, conversation piece from the early ‘90s. It's ready to use! Just plug it in and travel back in time to 1991!
