Vintage Apple Mac Macintosh Classic II - PRISTINE/Recapped/Tested/Working
Macintosh Classic II in amazing, like-new, condition. Very minor, if any, yellowing, no broken parts, no dings, no scratches, no pry marks, no cigarette or musty smells. Fully restored to reliable, working, condition.
The Mac Classic II was the last Mac to use a 9" black and white screen. It was referred to as "the poor man's Macintosh SE/30" as it had the same processor as the SE/30, but with a 16 bits data path instead of the 32 bits data path on the SE/30. This particular unit is in collector-grade pristine condition.
Many computers from the late 80's and early 90's used capacitors which, after many years of storage, were particularly prone to leakage. The Classic line was the most infamous for such leakage – which explains the rarity of this model in functional condition. Essentially, after many years (15+), the capacitors start to slowly leak the fluid (electrolyte) they contain which is very corrosive. This fluid "eats" away electrical traces and chip pins rendering the computer unusable. This is a problem which is prevalent on many vintage Macs. This Mac's logic board has been recently recapped and cleaned (2022). The "recapping" consists of removing the old capacitors, cleaning the printed circuit board of the leaked electrolyte, ensuring that there is no underlying damage to traces or components and replacing the capacitors by fresh capacitors thus giving the computer a new life.
This Classic II is equipped with a Motorola 68030 processor with 4MB of RAM (upgradeable to 10MB) and a 40 MB hard disk. It has been disassembled, dusted and cleaned. It has been fully tested, sound, internal and external ports, disks, etc. The floppy disk drive has been serviced and lubricated - reads, writes, formats and ejects disks as intended. The screen is in excellent condition - bright, sharp and stable with no burn-in.
Includes the Classic II, the Apple Keyboard II in excellent condition (no damage and barely any yellowing) - French layout, the keyboard cable, the Apple ADB Desktop Bus Mouse II and the original power cord. Also includes the original documentation (in French). Note: this Mac has not yellowed or discolored much (if any) and has not been retrobrighted. MacOS 7.1 (French) is installed on the hard disk.
Despite this computer having been extensively tested and found to be fully functional, it IS over 30 years old technology and as such, there is no guarantee offered, or implied, for continued functioning. This lot is being sold as-is with no returns accepted.
Great, fully functional, conversation piece from the early ‘90s. It's ready to use! Just plug it in and travel back in time to 1991!
